GARETH WINS BARCLAYS PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Gareth Bale has been named Barclays Player of the Month for January.

The award caps an outstanding month for the flying Welshman.
Gareth scored one of the goals of the season, let alone the month, in our agonising 3-2 defeat at Manchester City on January 22 when he hit as first-time curler from 25 yards over Joe Hart and into the top corner.
He then scored twice in Tuesday's 3-1 win against Wigan at the Lane.
"It's always nice for it to be recognised when you've been playing well," said Gareth.
"The team has been playing well and I'm just happy to be playing my part in that."
It's the second time Gareth has won the prestigious award after being named Barclays Player of the Month in April, 2010.
January's award for Gareth follows a club double when Harry Redknapp and Scott Parker won the Barclays Manager and Player of the Month respectively in November.
Gareth was also named in the UEFA.com users Team of the Year for 2011 last month.

MEDIA STATEMENT
Cycad Enterprises, the organisers of the NextGen Series Tournament, today announced the withdrawal of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club from the competition following the Club making them aware of an inadvertent breach of a competition regulation.
Tottenham Hotspur's Director of Football Administration Darren Eales said:“It is with regret that we have decided to withdraw from the semi finals of the NextGen Tournament due to an accidental breach of a competition regulation. We have done so fully respecting the Tournament regulations.
“As a club, we stand for the highest levels of integrity and respect and there was no unfair advantage sought or gained.
"Whilst hugely disappointing for players, staff and supporters, we would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support. We would also like to send Liverpool Football Club our very best wishes for the next round of the competition."
Technical Co-Ordinator and Manager of Tottenham Hotspur's NextGen side Tim Sherwood said: "It was obviously disappointing when this was brought to my attention. It is, however, all about the development of players and individual talent so the most disappointing aspect for us is that we will not be able to play another game at such a competitive level this season.
"The tournament has given us a great opportunity to see the best of other footballing cultures and many of our squad have proved that they are as good as any in Europe."
Mark Warburton, Head of Football for the tournament, made the following response: “Following conversations with senior Tottenham Hotspur officials we have agreed to accept their withdrawal from the semi final stages of the event.
"This is hugely unfortunate and we are sorry to see that such a hard fought encounter as witnessed at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night should have this conclusion. However, we can only applaud the Club for demonstrating such impeccable levels of sportsmanship and for acting in a manner which recognises the good spirit of both the Tournament and the game itself.
"We thank both clubs for their help and support in making this first year of the event such a success and we look forward to re-welcoming Liverpool to the semi-finals."
Liverpool Football Club will now progress to the semi final stage where they will face the winners of the FC Barcelona versus Ajax encounter which takes place next week, February 8th.

Women's Premier Leaguer Cup, Group Two
Spurs Ladies 0-3 Barnet
The result was somewhat harsh on Spurs as they could have been in control before Barnet opened the scoring.
Bianca Baptiste and Sam Pittuck combined well for the first opportunity inside two minutes but Sam slid her one-on-one chance wide.
Jenna Schillaci and Kirsten Thomson delivered a number of fine crosses from the flanks and Bianca went close again as it stayed 0-0.
Barnet forged ahead through Danielle Murphy on 38 minutes and it stayed 1-0 at half-time.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Spurs quickly out of the blocks and Sam was denied at point-blank range by goalkeeper Renata Inniss.
Jess Cheeseman and Wendy Martin worked tirelessly in midfield but the team was hit by the key second goal when Cheryl Williams curled home a free-kick.
The same played then benefited from a deflected shot that gave goalkeeper Jo Ayre no chance.
"We worked so hard but couldn't find a finish, and that was our problem," said Karen.
"If
we'd have scored one of the chances at the start of either half it
might have been a different game but we didn't take our chances and in
games like that you have to put them away."

Kevin Bond described Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe as 'extremely doubtful' for Monday's clash at Liverpool.
The pair suffered hamstring injuries in last Friday's FA Cup win at Watford and had to sit out Tuesday's win against Wigan.
Assistant boss Kevin said it was too early to to say whether or not Rafa van der Vaart would be fit for Anfield after a calf problem forced him off in the first half against the Latics.
However, there was good news as Kyle Walker, who also came off against Wigan with a slight groin problem, is expected to be fit.

"Aaron and Jermain are being treated, both are extremely doubtful for Monday but obviously we'll give them every chance," said Kevin before training at Spurs Lodge on Thursday morning. "The medical staff are working hard to see if they can get them there.
"Rafa went off with a calf strain and it's a bit early to say what his prospects are for Monday. Kyle Walker should be fine."

NEXTGEN - SPURS U19 1-0 LIVERPOOL U19
Posted 01 February 2012 7:11pm
Shaq Coulthirst's goal toppled Liverpool in the NextGen Series at White Hart Lane on Wednesday night.
It was a performance of both silk and steel from the lads as they enjoyed good possession at times but also had to defend for periods of the match.
That was particularly true as Liverpool tried everything to find an equaliser in the final 15 minutes.
Jonathan Miles made two fine saves in as many minutes, Alex Pritchard threw himself in to block Raheem Sterling's goalbound effort and hearts were in mouths in the final seconds as Sterling's effort fell to Adam Morgan, who angled his effort across Miles - and inches wide.
Tim Sherwood's team started well and Jake Nicholson was denied an early goal when Tyrell Belford smothered his close-range header.
Liverpool had the best of the chances after that. Michael Ngoo failed to get a shot off 10 yards out and then missed the target one-on-one and Miles was at his best to get a hand to Sterling's low shot from point-blank range.
The pace of the game was maintained in the second half as the teams traded chances.
Tomislav Gomelt glanced Pritchard's free-kick just wide before Nicholson and then Kevin Stewart blocked efforts from Ngoo and Toni Silva.
The breakthrough arrived on 71 minutes. Substitute Nabil Bentaleb's snapshot from 20 yards was parried out by Belford and Coulthirst beat Souleymane Coulibaly to the rebound and buried from six yards.
Liverpool pushed on for the equaliser. Miles did superbly to deflect Sterling's measured effort wide and then turn away Silva's header from the corner.
Morgan fired wide, Miles clawed away the same player's header and then in the second of three minutes' added time, Pritchard got a foot to Sterling's piledriver and the ball looped over.
That still handed the Reds a final chance, Sterling's effort from the corner landed at Morgan's feet and his effort appeared to angle inches wide in slow motion as the home fans held their breath.
Spurs (4-3-3): Miles; Barthram (Ekong, 79), Veljkovic, Nicholson, Stewart; Luongo, Pritchard, Gomelt (Bentaleb, 64); Coulthirst, Coulibaly, Munns. Unused subs: Granger, Ceballos, McEvoy, Angol.
Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Belford; McLoughlin, Wisdom, Sama, Flanagan; Coady, Roddan; Silva, Fernandez (Morgan, 77), Sterling; Ngoo (Adorjan, 77). Unused subs: Ward, McGiveron, Pelosi, Emilsson.

Gareth Bale is set to return against Wigan on Tuesday night after missing Friday's FA Cup win at Watford.

The winger was sidelined by a thigh problem as we came through a real test in the fourth round tie at Vicarage Road.
He trained this morning (Monday, January 30) and is now likely to be available as we step back into Premier League action against the Latics at the Lane.
However, Joe Jordan reported that Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe are both doubtful after picking up hamstring injuries at Watford.
"We'll have to see how they settle down," said first team coach Joe Jordan before training at Spurs Lodge this morning.
"They will not train with the squad, they'll train inside and do some physiotherapy, that's it.
"We'll then see how they are tomorrow.
"Gareth will train this morning and Ledley King will be available if he comes through training."
Joe also reported that Sandro is back in training but is not yet available for selection.
"Sandro has trained but he's been out for a month and he's not in the physical condition he was five weeks ago," added Joe.
"But he's back, his injury is clear and we've got to build him up now."

Kevin Bond has reported a few injury concerns ahead of Friday night's FA Cup clash at Watford.
Assistant boss Kevin revealed that Younes Kaboul (groin), Gareth Bale (thigh) and Scott Parker (hamstring) were all doubtful for the fourth round trip to Vicarage Road.
"Younes didn't train on Wednesday," said Kevin. "Scotty and Gareth both had to come out of training early. They all felt slight muscle strains and all three are doubtful."
Kevin added that Sandro and William Gallas both remain out with calf injuries.
25.01.2012Brad 'unbelievable' - Pat
Pat Jennings has paid tribute to Brad Friedel for his super-consistent performances this season.
Brad, 40, has maintained his incredible run of consecutive matches in the Premier League by starting all of our 22 league games so far this season.

That has taken his tally to 288 starts on the trot in the Premier League since the start of the 2004-05 campaign.
He has played a key role as we've kept eight clean sheets in those 22 matches to sit third in the table on 46 points.
Team-mates have regularly spoken about the value of his experience at the back and now legendary goalkeeper Pat has weighed in with his praise.
"Brad has been unbelievable," said Pat, who made 590 appearances for us between 1964-77, winning the FA Cup, two League Cups and the UEFA Cup along the way.
"At his age, to be on a run of approaching 300 matches without missing a game is fantastic.
"I don't think anyone will ever get near that record."
Pat, still at Spurs Lodge in his role as goalkeeping consultant, knows a thing about the longevity of a goalkeeper.
"I was 41 when I played my last game against Brazil," he added, in reference to Northern Ireland's group game against Brazil in the 1986 World Cup Finals. "In fact, that was on my 41st birthday.
"I could have played on if I had the opportunity, and there is no reason why Brad can't continue to play.
"He's been brilliant for us. He's showed all his experience and just how good he is at the moment."

TEAM NEWS - Harry makes two changes to the side that drew with Wolves last weekend, with Ledley King returning to the team in place of Michael Dawson, and Jermain Defoe spearheading the attack in place of the ineligible Emmanuel Adebayor. 1308: Unsurprisingly, there's an awful lot of buzz surrounding this match and it's the third season in a row where we've got a lot to play for here at the Etihad. Win, and we go two points behind Man City. Lose, and we're eight points behind. Big stakes.
1330: Rafa and Jermain get the game started.
9.41: YELLOW CARD, CLICHY - The Frenchman goes into the book for blocking an attempted quick throw by Kyle... with his hands. Strange decision from Clichy.
12.06: CHANCE - CITY - Aguero creares some space for himself 20-yards out, just to the right of the D, and shoots only for Ledley to make an excellent block.
17.34: CLOSE - CITY - Mighty close to the opening goal. City attack down the left again and Silva cuts the ball back superbly from the byline to Aguero just outside the six-yard box. He looks certain to score but his shot deflects of a City player and goes out for a goalkick.
25.06: CHANCE - CITY - Great play from Aguero who receives the ball in midfield and goes on a dazzling run. Younes does well to force him out wide but the Argentine expertly cuts back inside the box before laying the ball off to David Silva, who drags his shot a few yards wide of the far-post.
29.58: SAVE - FRIEDEL - Richards does well to win the ball on the right wing and squares the ball to Aguero just inside the box, but he hits his shot straight at Brad who does well to save with his legs. Good chance for City there.

We're ready - Gareth
Gareth Bale insists the players are 'up for the task' as they prepare for Sunday’s huge game at City.
It’s first versus third in the Premier League as we take our current run of just one defeat in 19 matches to leaders City, who have the perfect 10 at home – 10 wins out of 10 at the Etihad Stadium.
“City are a fantastic team,” said Gareth. “They are at the top of the Premier League for a reason.
“That reason is because they’ve been playing very good football and scoring a lot of goals.
“It will be a difficult game, especially at their place. They don’t lose too many there.
“But we’re definitely up for the task. We’ll give 100 per cent and look for the three points. We go there in good form and hopefully we’ll give them a run for their money.
“We’ve had huge matches with them in the last couple of seasons and it’s nice that this one is at the top of the league.
“It’s a big game with a lot of hype and we’re all experienced enough to take that, to prepare right and do the job.”

Harry Redknapp described Ledley King as 'doubtful' for Sunday's match at City - but hasn't completely ruled him out.
The defender has missed our last six matches since picking up a hamstring injury in training over the Christmas period.

"He's not trained, but it's not impossible he could come out and train tomorrow morning," said Harry before training this morning (Friday, January 20).
"He’s not fit to train today. He can’t, because of his knee, but he may well come out tomorrow morning, so I wouldn’t write him off.
"This is no different to normal. If he comes out tomorrow morning and says ‘I’m okay’, then he’ll play Sunday, if I pick him. That’s how it works. It's amazing, really. It defies everything."
William Gallas and Sandro have both been jogging outside as they continue their rehabilitation from calf injuries.
"They are not fit yet," reported Harry. "They are running at about 60 per cent, so a little way off yet."
Tom Huddlestone has also moved outside as he recovers from a long-term ankle problem.
"Apart from that, we're okay," added Harry.

43.44: OFFSIDE - ADEBAYOR - A Benoit ball in from the left found Gareth in space in the six-yard box, his goabound effort being touched in by Ade before it's disallowed for offside. Very marginal there.

53.18: SAVE - HENNESSEY - Fantastic stop . A cross finds Lennon at the far-post, his shot deflects to Luka on the edge of the box who shoots. It's straight at Hennessey who palms it to Lennon on the edge of the six-yard box, his shot superbly stopped by the goalkeeper who was still recovering from making the first save.
65.34: CHANCE - SPURS - Rafa curls it over the wall with his left foot but it's a couple of yards wide of the post.
68.37: YELLOW CARD - Benoit booked for holding Kightly backed.
73.14: SUB - SPURS - Jermain comes on for Aaron. It's all set up for JD to grab the winner here...
77.34: SAVE - HENNESSEY - Jermain has a pop from just inside the box, drilling the ball along the turf, but it's straight at Hennessey who makes the save with his feet.
79.42: SUBS - Benoit off for Danny Rose, whilst Wolves bring on Nenad Milijas for Dave Edwards
87.10: CHANCE - SPURS - Kyle has been one of our best attackers today. He makes another brilliant sprint down the right, cutting the ball back to Scott about 12-yards out but the midfielder swings his boot over the ball and Wolves clear.
90.05: We'll have five minutes of added time after mass confusion, with the referee awarding a drop ball in the box following the injuries to Hennessey and Johnson.

Scott Parker has a chance of returning for Saturday's Premier League clash against Wolves.
Harry Redknapp said he was 'hopeful' that the midfielder would be fit to face Mick McCarthy's men after missing the last three matches with a knee injury sustained at Swansea on New Year's Eve.
"We're hoping he's going to be okay," said Harry ahead of training on Friday.
"But it was great to see Jake Livermore come in and play like he did against Everton."
Sandro, William Gallas remain out with calf injuries and Ledley King is sidelined with a hamstring problem.
There was good news from Spurs Lodge as Tom Huddlestone ran for the first time outside earlier this morning as he continues his rehabilitation from an ankle injury.
"It's good news for Tom, he's a fantastic footballer and it's been sad for him to miss out so far this season," added Harry.

Wolves at the door
Harry Redknapp didn't bask in the glory of another win and moving up to joint-second in the Premier League on Wednesday night.
Instead, the manager admitted that our next fixture against Wolves at the Lane on Saturday was all he'd think about on the way home after the 2-0 win against Everton.
Goals from Aaron Lennon and Benoit Assou-Ekotto secured that win against the Toffees and took us level on points with Manchester United.
"I don't look any further than Wolves on Saturday, honestly," said Harry.
"That's all I'll be thinking about now, how we're going to play against Wolves.
"They will come here, they'll be tough, difficult to beat. Mick always gets the best out of his teams and we've got another really hard game on Saturday.
"We've just got to take each one as it comes. It's an old cliche, but we can't look further than the next game.
"That's where we're at and Wolves will be tough on Saturday."

24.47: CHANCE - SPURS - The lads break quickly after Distin gives the ball away in midfield. Gareth is released down the right and he squares it to Ade who is one-on-one with Howard in the box, but the striker spoons the ball over the keeper and the ball goes wide.

"We've one or two injuries. Ledley King has had a scan on his hamstring injury and it's not too bad, but he's not fit."
William Gallas and Sandro remain out with calf strains.

Aaron Lennon and Michael Dawson are back to face Cheltenham in the FA Cup tomorrow.
Winger Aaron was in fine form before picking up a hamstring injury against Sunderland on December 18.
Meanwhile, central defender Michael returns after recovering from a long-term Achilles problem that has kept him out since August.
“It’s great to have Michael coming back, he’s been out quite a while now,” said Harry Redknapp on Friday morning.
“He’s worked hard to get back to fitness and is looking forward to playing.
“Aaron looks fine as well, he trained yesterday and he’s ready to play as well, which is great.”
It’s not all good news though as Harry ruled out William Gallas, Sandro and Scott Parker.
“Sandro and William Gallas both have calf injuries, they are definitely not fit,” reported Harry. “We’re not sure how long they are going to be.
“Scott is not fit either. He took a bad bang on the knee at Swansea. We’ll have to wait and see on that one as well.”
Harry said he will make changes for the third round tie at the Lane.
“We will change it around,” added the manager. “That’s no disrespect to Cheltenham, but we’ve played the same players (over Christmas and New Year) and we can’t keep playing them. We need to use the squad.
“But we will still field a team of international players, we want to make sure we get through.”

Cup return for Daws
Harry Redknapp has pencilled in Michael Dawson for a return to action against Cheltenham on Saturday.

The defender has been out with an Achilles problem since August.
He returned to training last week and was back on the bench for Saturday’s Premier League draw at Swansea.
“Michael will play on Saturday,” said Harry. “It will be his first game back. Hopefully he’ll be fit.
“We were struggling for cover at Swansea. He’d only trained once but he put himself up for the bench, that’s typical of him. He’s a fantastic lad.”
Harry also said Aaron Lennon could return from the hamstring injury he suffered against Sunderland on December 18.
“Aaron could be fit. He’s training and we’d like to get a game into him if we can.”

TEAM NEWS - Scott Parker is ruled out through injury as Harry Redknapp makes one change to the side that drew with Swansea last week. Jermain Defoe comes into the team and makes his first Premier League start since the victory over Bolton at the start of December. SPURS TEAM: Brad Friedel; Kyle Walker; Younes Kaboul; William Gallas; Benoit Assou-Ekotto; Gareth Bale; Sandro; Luka Modric; Rafa Van der Vaart; Emmanuel Adebayor. SUBS: Carlo Cudicini; Sebastien Bassong; Danny Rose; Jake Livermore; Niko Kranjcar; Giovani Dos Santos; Roman Pavlyuchenko.
1945: West Brom get the game started.
4.30: CHANCE - SPURS - Jermain rolls the ball a couple of yards wide after taking a shot from just outside the box. Foster had it covered anyway.
8.26: Sandro misjudges a high ball and Peter Odemwingie chases the ball down the flank, but the Brazilian tracks back to stop the attack. Not for the first time in the past few games, the Brazilian's workrate is fantastic.
15.01: Gareth whips in a great cross with his left-foot on the right-wing, forcing Foster to come out and punch with Jermain lurking.
22.44: YELLOW CARD - Jerome Thomas is booked for tackling Gareth Bale just outside the West Brom area. Good shooting opportunity.
25.43: SAVE - FOSTER - Great save. Younes played Gareth in down the left, the Welshman rolling the ball into the penalty area. Rafa ran onto it and flicked ithe ball towards the top of the net from the edge of the six-yard box, only for Foster to acrobatically palm it over.
28.10: Sandro is receiving some treatment after falling awkwardly in midfield
29.42: SUB - SPURS - The Brazilian is helped from the pitch and is replaced by Jake Livermore.
31.03: CHANCE - SPURS - Gareth and Ade exchange passes in the West Brom area but Baggies defender Billy Jones just manages to get to the final ball first, playing it off Ade and into Foster's arms as the striker prepared to hammer the ball home from close-range.
36.40: Rafa swings in a corner and it's inches too high for the onrushing Younes Kaboul. Good pressure from Spurs as we enter the latter stages of the first half.
42.11: We haven't had much to worry about defensively, but in fairness to West Brom nor have they. We've had a lot of the ball in and around the Baggies' penalty area without creating too many chances.
42.30: SAVE - FOSTER - Ade lays the ball off to Rafa for a shot from about 25-yards out, but Foster is alert and dives down low to his left to make a relatively comfortable save.
45.02: There will be four minutes of added time.
49.07: HALF-TIME - SPURS 0-0 WEST BROM
45.00: Jermain and Ade kick-off the second half.
45.33: CHANCE - SPURS - Good start to the second half. Kyle lofted a pass into the box and Ade flicked it to Jermain about 12-yards out, but he blazed it over the bar on the volley.
50.25: CLOSE - SPURS - Inches wide from Jermain. He flicked the ball towards goal from close-range after a cross from Rafa, the ball taking a deflection and going just wide.
55.46: The first ten minutes or so has produced a similar feel to the first forty-five, with plenty of play taking place around the West Brom area without a chance being created.
57.34: CLOSE - SPURS - Luka curls it a couple of yards over the bar with his right foot.
59.21: SAVE - FRIEDEL - Simon Cox attacks the penalty area and gets close to the byline before firing a shot straight at Brad from a tight angle, the goalkeeper beating the ball away.
62.21: GOAL - SPURS - What did I tell you? Gareth received the ball from Rafa in the box and played a square ball to Jermain, who did brilliantly to hold off several defenders, turn and poke the ball home from eight-yards or so. Will this open the floodgates?
Spurs 1-0 West Brom
66.34: SUB - SPURS - William looks to have taken a knock and is replaced by Sebastien Bassong.
73.04: CHANCE - SPURS - Kyle cut the ball back to Gareth on the edge of the West Brom box, but the Welshman curled the ball straight to Ben Foster.
74.14: Jake is getting looked at by the doctor after the youngster took a blow to the head from Younes Kaboul.
75.11: CHANCE - WEST BROM - With two Spurs players off the pitch - Younes is also getting treatment - Albion are able to attack and James Morrison plays a dangerous pass back across the box from the byline. All it needed was a touch from a West Brom player, but nobody was there to meet the ball.
76.27: SUB - SPURS - Jake can't continue and Niko Kranjcar replaces him.
81.35: SAVE - FRIEDEL - Tchoyi stings Friedel's palms from 20-yards out. Given how little the American has had to do all game, he does well to still be alert at this point
82.34: CHANCE - SPURS - Gareth does well to get a cross in when under pressure deep inside the West Brom penalty area but it's slightly behind Rafa, who heads over
87.41: Into the last few minutes and whilst it's only 1-0, West Brom have a chance of snatching a draw. Tchoyi had a good chance to break into the box and shoot with Seb the only defender near him, but he took to long and reinforcements arrived.
90.07: Five minutes of added time to be played.
91.45: But this time Brad is able to claim, setting off a counter-attack. Bale is brought down by Cox as he accelerates through midfield and the striker is booked.

Keane to train at Spurs Lodge
The Club can confirm that Robbie Keane will train with the First Team squad up until January 20 in order to build up his fitness ahead of returning to LA Galaxy for the start of the new MLS season.
02.01.2012Fans key - Ade
Emmanuel Adebayor believes the fans can play their part as we prepare for a key spell of four home games in 11 days.

We kick-off 2012 with the visit of West Brom to the Lane in the Premier League tomorrow night followed by Cheltenham in the FA Cup on Saturday then back-to-back league matches against Everton on January 11 and Wolves on January 14.
We sit third in the Premier League and 'Ade' is determined to start the year in style on home soil.
"We have three league matches at home and we have to take it game at a time and try to take maximum points," said the striker.
"There are important matches and we need our fans right behind us. We need the voice, the noise from our 12th man, the fans. I'm sure they will be with us.
"We have to do everything to take the three points."
Ade was disappointed after Swansea forced an equaliser six minutes from time in Saturday's 1-1 draw at the Liberty Stadium.
"It was a tough one, but they are a good side," he said. "We wanted to get the three points but that’s football. We have to take it and keep going.
"We created chances and could have converted them but they played some amazing football as well and deserved to draw."

The new stadium will also benefit from a Club museum, shops and homes, new facilities for the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and important public space.
The plans will enable the team to remain at the current site throughout construction.
Daniel Levy added:
"Development projects on this scale take a long time from the initial starting point to final completion. Any new stadia we have seen recently would have been designed at least eight to ten years ago. We are designing for our future and this stadium design has been described as the first of the next generation of stadia.
"This development is more than just somewhere where the team can play football. The Northumberland Development Project will deliver substantial investment for the future of the Borough and will benefit the community.
"It's about leaving a legacy for this great Club and, once delivered, I hope all our fans around the world will be very proud."
